Giving Back to Mother Nature this Earth Day — We’ve All Got Time For it

Earth Day’s 50th anniversary here today! In these very bizarre circumstances we all find ourselves living in, we need to get a little creative this year in order to give back to Mother Nature from our own homes. While it might seem like an epic Earth Day buzzkill, there are still so many things we can do to protect, give back to and advocate for our environment on today.

The theme of Earth Day 2020 is climate action, and the theme is actually pretty timely for what’s occurring in the world today. Perhaps the only one benefitting from the current pandemic is Mother Earth herself.
For example, China has seen a 25% drop in energy use and air emissions over a two-week period that will likely lead to an overall fall of about 1% in China’s carbon emissions this year, experts believe.

The same effects are being seen in other heavily polluted cities around the globe as well, demonstrating that making big changes to our lifestyles can have massive, healing outcomes for the planet. While we know that eventually our lives will return back to normal, we can take with us the concrete knowledge that the actions we take on both small and large scales have very real impacts on the environment, and that we have the power to stop climate change.

So, what can YOU do this Earth Day to celebrate and support our beautiful planet while being socially responsible? Here are a few ideas for you:

  1. Get planting — Have you wanted to start a garden but just haven’t gotten around to it? Well, now is the perfect time to tackle it! By taking care of your immediate environment, starting a garden, or planting trees or any other kinds of vegetation, you’re giving back to Mother Earth while checking things off your to-do list as well. We call that a win-win.

  2. Unplug the TV— Let’s be real, we’re all binge-watching our faces off right now. That’s why Earth Day 2020 is the perfect excuse to unplug the TV for a day to conserve some energy and be proactive for the sake of the environment.

  3. Save the Electricity
Natural light is one of the key ways of saving energy. Open your curtains and let the sunlight shine into your home. There’s nothing nicer than sitting back in a warm and sunny spot in your living room.

  4. Reduce Single-Use Plastics and Strive for a Zero-waste Lifestyle
Take a look around — how much plastic do you use (and then throw away) on a daily basis?
From plastic bags to utensils, straws, and water bottles, there are lots of little ways where we can start to make a difference. Reduce, reuse, and recycle, be sure to follow and practice the three “R’s” to conserve natural resources and landfill space.

  5. Conserve WaterOpt for a shower & Shorten showering time
Switching your bath for a shower can make a huge difference. Baths use approximately double the amount of water a shower uses. This not only saves water, but it saves you money too.

In a time where most of everything we’ve been looking forward to in the coming months has been cancelled, make Earth Day something to get excited about and look forward to this year. Celebrate Earth Day virtually with us and participate in these #stayhome activities! Let’s work together to make the world a better place.
